How to Prep for Your Brand Shoot

The best brand photos are not lucky. They are planned. A little prep before the shoot is the difference between images you use everywhere and images that sit unused in a folder. Here is how to walk in ready.

Start with where the photos will live

Before anything else, list the places you actually need images: your homepage hero, an about page, social posts, ad creative. Working backward from usage tells us what to shoot, which orientations to capture, and how much negative space to leave for text.

Build a simple shot list

  • Confident headshots — one warm, one neutral, one candid
  • Your workspace or storefront, wide and tight
  • Hands at work — the details that show your craft
  • Product or deliverables styled the way a client receives them

Dress like your brand, not a costume

Choose outfits that match the colors and mood of your brand, and bring options in solid tones. Avoid busy patterns and logos that pull focus. When in doubt, layer — it gives us variety without a full wardrobe change.

Style your props the night before

If products are part of the shoot, clean and prep them in advance. Wipe fingerprints, steam fabrics, and pack backups. On shoot day, momentum matters and you do not want to lose it hunting for a lint roller.

Confidence photographs better than perfection. Come rested, come prepared, and let the rest be our job.

The morning of

Eat something, hydrate, and arrive a few minutes early to settle in. The first ten minutes are always the stiffest — that is normal. By the time we hit our stride, you will forget the camera is there.
